Internationalized EHR

A One-Week, Residential Workshop on the Internationalization of Model-Driven, Open Source Electronic Health Records.

3rd – 8th April 2022, St Edmund Hall, Oxford.

Fordham Uiversity

St Edmund Hall

This one-week residential workshop will bring together participants from around the world, to create internationalized variants of a model-driven health records system. We will use the open source cityEHR system, with an example ontology model for Fracture Liaison Services, which has been created in English, with variants in Spanish and Mandarin. This workshop will build upon the experiences from a first workshop held in December 2021, which explored language variants in French, German, Portuguese, Somali, Urdu, Arabic and Farsi.

The workshop is organised as part of a collaborative research project involving Fordham University (New York), the University of Victoria (Canada) and the University of Oxford. Results will be published in academic journals/conferences in 2022.

Workshop participants will set up their own installation of the cityEHR, import the Fracture Liaison ontology model and review the tools that have been used to create the Spanish and Mandarin variants. They will then create their own internationalized variants, with the help of our expert tutors, customized for their own language and territory.

Having started from this existing base English-language model and learnt the methods for creating international variants, participants will then create a new model for a health domain of their choice, in their native language, with a variant in English.

The workshop will be hands-on, collaborative and informative with opportunities to interact with the tutors and other participants during the evening social events. Accommodation, meals and refreshments are included in the registration fee, all within the fabulous surroundings of St Edmund Hall, which pre-dates the University of Oxford and is the only surviving medieval hall for the education of undergraduates at the University.
